Hi ,

"We may run, walk, stumble, drive, or fly, but let us never lose sight of the reason for the journey, or miss a chance to see a rainbow on the way."

MATEMO AMOR...

February has become known as the month of love with Valentine's Day on the 14th. In honour of this special Day, the Matemo Island team treated their Valentine's couples to a blessing ceremony hosted by the local "Imam". The ladies also experienced the art of traditional face painting.

But why only celebrate one's devotion in February? Breathtakingly beautiful and original, palm-studded Matemo Island, in the Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique, exudes exclusivity and romance. Here, no fairy godmother is needed to wave her magic wand and create a memorable experience: the quintessential tropical island paradise of Matemo Island mesmerizes those who visit and is the perfect setting for your romantic getaway or beach wedding - all year round.

NEW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR MAPUTO

Maputo International Airport, the largest airport in Mozambique, unveiled its new international terminal in November 2010. The modern facilities and structure allows for a more seamless and efficient experience for visitors flying in and out of Maputo.

Following a $75 million overhaul, the new airport can accommodate up to 900 000 travellers per year, and is a key part of the government's plans to boost the tourism industry in the country with its rich culture, untouched beauty and 2 700km of warm Indian Ocean coastline.

THE MEDJUMBE EGGS-PERIENCE

Medjumbe Private Island guests were treated to a rare and exciting sighting of turtle eggs hatching last month!

Medjumbe lies on the edge of the protected Quirimbas National Park in northern Mozambique and has been fastidious in protecting the island’s natural flora and fauna, from the resident white and black heron colony to the green turtle nests that are often dug right in front of the chalets. Each turtle nest is staked out and stringently protected with fortunate guests being able to witness the laying of eggs or hatching of baby turtles.

Tailor-Made Travel

Each month, this section will feature an itinerary option which will incorporate the magic of a Rani Resorts property with an incredible destination partner that will add to your client's travel experience or, as we would like to call it, journey of discovery.

This month's suggested itinerary: Pirates of the Quirimbas

Featuring: 2 nights at historical Ibo Island Lodge with 5 nights at palm-studded Matemo Island.

The Quirimbas Archipelago is undoubtedly Mozambique’s best-kept secret - a 250km long string of tropical islands that are both marine wonderland and historical melting pot. Environmentally pristine, the archipelago’s 27 islands are surrounded by dazzling coral reefs and a wealth of untouched marine life. Culturally, the Quirimbas are important too. A melting pot of Arabian, European and African influences, as well as a one-time centre of East Africa’s slave trade, they have a dark but important history to reveal. World Heritage Site status is being considered for Ibo Island, one of the first outposts of the colonization of Mozambique itself, and obvious recognition for this natural and cultural wonderland which currently sees only a handful of visitors at a time.

Highlights:

~ Ancient culture and history on Ibo Island, particularly the fort of Fort of São João Batista

~ Beautiful, intricate hand-crafted silver jewellery by local silversmiths on Ibo Island

~ Dinner on the beach - a lá Matemo - with your feet in the sand as you dine on fresh, delicious seafood

~ Relaxing in your hammock, with the azure Indian Ocean footsteps away from your chalet at Matemo
